The Hungarian Revolution and the War of Independence in 1848-1849.

Following the news of the Revolution in Vienna on 13th March, the revolution led by the Pilvax Circle
broke out in Pest. In Bratislava the Parliament voted for the
Kossuth program, which included the abolition of serfdom and joint share of tax
burdens.

The War of Independence began, the army of the Croatian Ban Jellasic,
the Imperial Lieutenant General crossed the Hungarian-Croatian border (Drava River).

In the Battle of Pákozd the Hungarian army stopped the one led by Jellacic,
and then it left the country.

Near the village of Schwechat (near Vienna), the Hungarian army led by János Móga
was defeated by the imperial one led by Windisch-Gratz and Jellasics.

The National Assembly in Debrecen declared the dethronement of
the House of Habsburg.

At the Battle of Chapel, Henryk Dembiński is defeated by Windisch-Grätz's
forces.

As the peak of the spring campaign the recapture of Buda takes place.

General József Bem and other Hungarian generals are defeated at the Battle of Segesvár.

General Artúr Görgei handed the army over to the Austrians
at Világos, 30 km northeast of Arad.
